Obituary of Donald John MacAulay

Regretfully , we announce the passing of Donnie MacAulay on January 8, 2025 at the age of 81.
Born in New Waterford , he was the oldest son of the late Donnie and Pearl (MacDonald) MacAulay.
He attended Central School where he was an accomplished athlete helping lead Central to a number of titles , most notably , the Canadian Juvenile Basketball title in 1961, Donnie continued his athletic endeavors with the New Waterford Strands -basketball- and the Scotchtown Raiders -fastball - and helped lead each team to a number of Provincial and Maritime championships before moving to Halifax in 1973. For his efforts , he and his teammates were proudly enshrined in the Nova Scotia , Cape Breton and New Waterford Halls of Fame.
Donnie worked for 28 years as a provincial government employee with the NS Dept. of Education as an Adult Education Instructor and later with Apprenticeship Training .
In Halifax , Donnie was quite proud to be part of a slow-pitch team with his two daughters. He played this sport until the age of 64 when golf became his passion. He had a hole in one the first year he played and added two more in later years.
In addition to his parents , he was predeceased by his wife , Bev ( Pickles) and his two sisters , Barbara MacDonald and Carol Brewer and a brother, Dave. He is survived by his partner , Jeannine Poirier, his daughters Karen and Lisa (Sherry) and three grand children , Melissa ( Evan ) Cheetham , Michael MacAulay and Christopher (Renee) Beeler and three great grandchildren , Harvey, Adelle and Eloise, and his brother Ronnie.
He has asked us to keep his memory alive by continuing his legacy of making people feel good - through kind words and deeds, smiles , and most especially. Hugs.

A Celebration of Life for Donnie will be held at the Spryfield Legion , 7 Sussex St, Halifax, on January 18, 2025 from 2- 5 pm.
