So sorry to hear of Don's passing. A smile came over my face remembering him. I think of all the times we shared at Atlantic softball tournaments for work. (Laughing) Loved chatting with him. Always a great story teller about his girls and their families. The game of golf he loved so well. He would always tell me how many rounds per year he got in. (The more the merrier) He was a darling. He will be missed. Thinking of you all. Sending hugs and love to you all. Memories live on your heart forever. Still smiling. Don you’re one of a kind. ❤️

Karen and Lisa, so many memories of your dad and mom from the WCB softball tournaments to mention. They were buddies to myself and Madonna, and your dad continued to be our bud after your mom passed.
He never missed sending a message on my birthday or reaching out for a get together when he was “on the rock”.
One of the funniest was in New Brunswick when he showed his “retired not expired “ underwear , on stage, lol.
He will be missed. Hugs to you all.

What a loss! What an athlete! What a man! In the 60's, when I played basketball for Sydney Academy, I usually didn't enjoy going against Donnie and the Strands, but I always marveled at Donnie's athleticism and the sportsmanlike way he played the game. He was a huge positive influence on me and, I'm sure, many others. It was always a great pleasure, too, when we ran into each other at Metro Centre CIAU/CUS games. I will miss those encounters. My sincere condolences to the whole family.

Condolences to Lisa, Karen and Family. Donnie was a Gem! There were many late Friday afternoons a group of us would meet at the old Midtown Tavern and greet the weekend with many toasts. Donnie and Bev were an outstanding couple!!! Bev would speak her mind and Donnie would gently agree. As the years passed after Bev's passing, it was a real pleasure to see Donnie at may events around Halifax. We've lost a true gentleman! R.I.P

He was always there for your Mom. He transported your Mom, Marie, Marion, and me to Point Pleasant Park for lunch on many occasions. Then there were the times he would forget it was his modified and go to work anyway. I always told Bev, with Donnie on the phone listening, if she didn't smack him I would. Take comfort in knowing he is reunited with his beloved Bev. Many, many good times and memories.
Take Care.

Q: How did you meet Donald?
A: I met Donnie playing softball with the WCB Team just over 20 years ago and had the honour to get to know him through ball and a particularly fun trip to Newfoundland one year to play the WCB there. He and Heather Macleod and I climbed Signal Hill one morning after a very late night on George Street. He was up for anything. One of the top ten nicest people I’ve ever known. I can’t imagine what a loss you are all feeling as his family/close friends. Just an Absolute gem and gentleman.Although I am away this weekend and can’t attend the celebration of life my love and best wishes will be there. Take care.

I offer my condolences to Donnie’s family. Donnie played the infield with me for several years with the Dominion Metal Barons’ (aka Stuckey’s Flying Circus) fastball team on the Commons in Halifax from 1975-1977. He was very competitive, especially with regards to his own performance which was usually excellent. The team was a close-knit group on and off the field. We spent those years socializing during and after the fastball season. He had a great sense of humour and was always willing to share a laugh and a pun. Although I no longer live in Halifax, I have returned on occasion and kept in touch with many of our team mates and friends. Hopefully, some will be able to attend his Celebration of Life.

I want to send our condolences to all of Donnie's Family and know You and Donnie are in our thoughts. We were shocked and saddened with the news of his passing. He was a good friend and a Great Guy. Always good for a laugh, quite often at the expense of his Brother in Law Donnie MacDonald. I think of all the golf games with Donnie and Donnie against Stuart and I, always playing for a beer and bragging rights at Indian Lake and other courses as well, The vacation in Ellenton Fla, all the events at Indian Lake. He was a True Gentleman and a Good Friend and he will be missed. Don't miss Your Tee time Lanky!

My heartfelt condolences on the loss of Donnie.
As a younger cousin, I grew up in the reflected glory of being related to such a great athlete.
In family stories I remember, he was 'little' Donnie, while his dad was 'big' Donnie.

I am saddend today to learn of Don's passing. He workded with and for me in the Apprenticeship Division of the then Department of Education. Donnie was a model employee always punctual, energetic and willing to go the extra mile for clients and his employer. His athletic prowess was evident as he was a star player on our Division Slow Pitch team. He was very devoted to his late wife Bev. whose passing left him with many fond memories. I am pleased to learn that he is survived by a new partner in life, Jeannine, who would well know what an amazing person Don has always been. Rest in peace dear friend.

My heartfelt condolences to Donnie’s family.Donnie was truly one of a kind—so intelligent, funny, and kind. I always enjoyed our conversations, and he will always stand out as one of the greatest athletes ever to come from New Waterford. More than that, he was a role model for me growing up.I fondly remember walking down Wilson Avenue with him on our way to Mt. Carmel gym. He had just returned from university and was heading to a Strands basketball practice. I was in grade seven at the time, going up to watch practice and maybe get a few shots up on the side rims. I’ll never forget how kind he was to me that day—I felt so proud to be in his company.Fast forward eight years, and I had the privilege of being his teammate when his last-second three-point play clinched the Maritime Title for the Strands. In my mind, it was one of the greatest clutch performances in our community’s rich sports history.
Rest in peace, Donnie. You will never be forgotten.

It is with a heavy heart that I send this note of sympathy to Donnie's family. I played fast pitch with Donnie for many years in Halifax and certainly enjoyed our games, friendship and travels together over the years. A finer gentleman you could not meet. Nobody ever had a negative comment about Donnie. There are just too many fond memories to start here. I always loved you "big brother". RIP until we meet again.

Dear Lisa and Karen
My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family. Donnie embodied all that a Cape Bretoner should be- kind and always respectful others. His willingness, and ability, to participate in whatever was going on helped to make life enjoyable for so many.
Unfortunately we are traveling and will not be able to join in the celebration of life. However I will then be exploring lovely memories.

So many things come to mind with Donnie. Singing Alley Oop with Pic late in the evening. His laugh .. which were countless. Golfing with him. But I will always remember his help doing the Sunday New York Times. His memory of useless facts was amazing to me. He always worked hard not to humble me with his brilliant answers. Rest easy Donsie
