Obituary of Irene Joan Reid

Irene Joan Reid Glace Bay, N.S. It is with broken hearts that we the family of Irene Joan Reid of Glace Bay, just a day shy of her 81st birthday passed away quietly in the An Cala unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on January 10, 2025. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late William and Jean (Drover) Baggs. In her earlier years she was employed at the Point Edward Hospital and the Children’s Hospital in Halifax. Irene loved to watch TV especially the Price is Right, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune as well as cooking shows. Irene is survived by her husband John, who was her primary caretaker for the last couple of years, her daughter Kimberly (Chess MacDonald), sons, Daniel and Darrell, Halifax; stepchildren Sylvia Hillman (Bill) and John (Gloria); as well as grandchildren and great grandchildren; Irene is also survived by her sisters Marion (Jerry Pye), Ottawa and Marilyn Hare (the late Earl), Halifax, along with many nieces and nephews. We will miss her forever. Along with her parents Irene was predeceased by son Christopher and stepdaughter Charlotte Gauthier; Irene was also predeceased by six sisters and four brothers. As per Irene’s request, there will be no wake or service. Cremation has taken place under the care and compassion of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, Glace Bay, and burial will be at a later date. A special thank you to the ICU Department at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital who went above and beyond to make sure Irene was comfortable.
