Ahern, Michael William Peter, age 81, of Halifax, passed away Nov. 26th, 2024, at Northwood Seniors Residence. Born in Halifax NS, October 1, 1943 he was the son of Terence and Teresa (née(McKay) Ahern. Michael had a life-long profound love of music. He was proficient on guitar and double bass. He kept a guitar close by at all times and played even in his final days. He was an audiophile with very specific tastes in recordings, in recording quality and format. He invented his own system of writing music, called Direct Music Notation, which he registered and made available at no charge as his musical legacy. He had a passion for recording devices and analog technology. Mike had a vast mental library of musical knowledge and trivia, which he enjoyed sharing.
He is survived by his brothers Brian and Patrick, sisters Aileen Nanci. as well as by his nieces Shannon, Meaghann and Tessa, grand-nephew Raiden and great grand-nephew & niece Prudence and Percival. Uncle Mike was cherished by the junior Aherns who saw him as one of their own, a child's heart, curious and gentle.
Michael was predeceased by his parents and older brother Peter.
There will be no visitation or funeral service, however there will be a graveside committal at the Ahern family plot in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Mumford Rd., Halifax at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 3, 2025.
Memorial donations may be made to the Schizophrenia Society of Canada, or charity of your choice. Prayers are welcome, too.
