Obituary of Emily Joan Anthony

Emily “Joan” Anthony (ne: Caines), 88 years of age, died Dec 21/2024 at Parkstone Enhanced Care Halifax, peacefully in her sleep in the presence of her two sons. Born in Halifax to James and Annette Caines (nee: Foster). She was predeceased by her siblings: Ruth, Murray, George and Jim. Married to William G. Anthony (Digby, decd: 2001) for 38 years, having two sons (William J. and Alexander G.). As a lifelong resident of Halifax, she graduated from The University of King’s College. After graduation, she posed for a J. Zarand portrait of the then new Nova Scotia tartan. This cherished painting was hung in pride of place within the family home. This prized painting was admired and commented upon by company. Next, she drove with friends through Europe. The women purchased a car in Holland and ended up 6 months later in the Greek Isles. She chose to raise her two sons in Halifax. She worked in several family businesses. As her family came of age, she had more time for herself and her community. She enjoyed sewing for friends and family, joining the Atlantic Sewing Guild. She became the secretary for the Rockingham Heritage Society. For the last 4 years of her life, she resided at Parkstone Enhanced Care Halifax. Cremation with no service. The celebration of her life will be held later this summer.
