Obituary of Johanna M. Kristjansson

Johanna M. Kristjansson, Age 64, of Halifax, NS, passed away unexpectedly on November 30th, 2024 at the QEII Health Sciences Centre. Johanna was born in Saint John, NB on August 12, 1960 to Linda Mason (nee Hamilton) and the late Erik Kristjansson. A long time employee of the Maritime Museum in Halifax, she could be found caring for their mascot Merlin the Macaw, or providing her personal interpretation of our family experience during the Halifax explosion. Mom loved nature and being outdoors. She enjoyed spending time at her “cabbage” and will be remembered by family and colleagues for the feasts she prepared to celebrate many special occasions, but most especially for her holiday baking and preserves. Anyone who came across mom over the years would agree, she was a force. Opinionated and obstinate, strong willed and resilient. She knew something about everything and was far more intelligent then her formal education gave her credit for. She struggled with life-long addiction, the impact of which continues to be felt throughout our family. Her addiction ended her life. Johanna is survived by her spouse of almost 34 years, Richard Cassie; sister Kristine (Brad) and brother Marty; daughter Johanna and her son Fynn, daughter Victoria (Devon) and their children Katlyn, Nolan, and Blayre, daughter Georgena and her son Elliott, step-daughter Michelle (Mike) and their children Kaitlin, Annamarie, and Kaylee; many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her father Erik, Stepfather Mitch, and son in law Angus. In keeping with her wishes, there will not be a service. Cremation and arrangements have been entrusted to T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, Halifax, NS. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia.
