Obituary of Ken MacLeod
Kenneth John MacLeod (“Tucker” to many) passed away peacefully at the An Calla Palliative Care Center at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Friday Nov. 1, 2024.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late John and Sadie (Morrison) MacLeod.
Ken was an avid and active sports enthusiast throughout his time, playing competitive baseball as well as pick-up hockey and working out at the YMCA. For many years he was also an accomplished bowler, as evidenced by the many trophies on his mantle. And he loved watching his Blue Jays, hoping this year would be the year.
His special time of course was with his wife (Violet, pre-deceased). They were common fixtures walking along Kings Road, and they were happiest enjoying the beaches at Big Pond and Ingonish.
Ken was employed as a Social Worker with the Province of Nova Scotia for 25 years before he retired. Prior to that he worked at the Sydney Credit Union and Hamilton Biscuits.
He is survived by his son David, Toronto, daughter, Karen (Danny), Sydney, and granddaughter, Mia; his sisters, Ruth, Sydney, and brother, Timmy, Sydney, his nieces, Nancy, Sydney, and Marguerite, Paris, ON. He was predeceased by his sister, Christine.
There will be no visitation for the late Ken MacLeod. A Celebration of Life will take place at 2 PM Sunday, November 10 at T.J. Tracey Funeral Home, 6 Churchill Dr. Sydney, with a reception to follow. For those unable to attend, livestreaming will be available by visiting T.J. Tracey Facebook page. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Ken’s dedicated doctor over the years, Dr. Greg Myatt as well as the wonderful people who have cared for him so well over the years – Eleanor Burton, the VON and his kind and generous neighbors who enabled dad to be at home for so long, as well as Dr. John Archibald and the exceptional and loving staff at MacGillivary Guest Home. They are also grateful to Dr Lisa MacInnis, Dr Saneea Abboud and the staff at the An Cala Palliative Care Unit who ensured his final days were comfortable and peaceful.
Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the VON, MacGillivary Guest Home or a charity of choice.
