Obituary of Vernon Leslie Fredericks

Please share a memory of Vernon to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Vernon passed away peacefully on November 28, 2022, with his family at his side. Born to Carl and Lillian Fredericks, Bedford, N.S., young Vernon was known for his adventurous spirit, and was always fast and furious when in the driver’s seat of any snowmobile or nice car. Thankfully, he liked girls who were kinder and sweeter. Vernon married young Jane Fraser, who he adored till his dying breath. Together they had three beautiful children - Michael (Sue), Danny (Doralin) and Kelly (Tim Brandys) - who remain the crowning glory of their 63- year journey together. Vernon spent 35 years with the Queen’s Printer of Nova Scotia and retired with many lifelong friends. Retirement wasn’t about slowing down but having new adventures. Vernon and Jane opened a successful antique business, Peek A Boo Antiques, in New Germany, N.S. in 1997. When their grandchildren would visit in the summer months, Vernon and Jane would set up sleepovers for them in the loft of the shop. His grandson Taylor described Gramps perfectly when he said, “he was a pretty wild guy—prickly as a porcupine and soft as a teddy bear all at the same time.” Vernon also spent 20+ years working with the Kinsmen Club of Halifax on their Kinsmen TV Bingo. Not only did he drop off bingo tickets, but he collected many friends along his way. Real retirement came soon enough, and Vernon & Jane enjoyed many wonderful winters at their home in Largo, FL, where they made many lifelong friendships. Along with Jane and his children, Vernon (Gramps, Grampy, Poppy) is survived by his cherished grandchildren, Carey & Taylor (Cece) Fredericks, Zachary & Jordan Fredericks, and Lauren, Lindsay and Jeffrey Brandys; great granddaughters, Hannah and Adelyn; and his siblings, Darryl (Sally), Lynn (Bub Sarson), Michael (Paula), and Mark. His beautiful fur-baby, Jada will miss him and his cuddles always. The family would like to express our gratitude to the amazing staff at Evans Hall and Sullivans Lane for providing Vern (Papa) with loving care and many treats. If you would like to make a donation in Vernon’s memory, please consider Souls Harbor Rescue Mission or The Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia - or buy someone a “Timmies.” Arrangements have been entrusted to T.J.
