Margaret ‘Margie’ MacDonald Glace Bay, NS It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Margaret ‘Margie’ MacDonald, 87, in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on October 17, 2022. Mom was born in Sydney on September 5, 1935 and was the daughter of the late Wallace and Jessie Martell. Our mother was a graduate of Holy Angels High School. In her early years she worked at Eaton’s in Sydney and then at Point Edward Naval base for several years. She had fond memories of this time and loved to share stories with her family. On October 17, 1959 she married our dad, Claude, and together they raised their 5 children in Glace Bay. While raising her family, she also worked at the Glace Bay Community Hospital and Glace Bay General in the Nursing Service Departments. She was once a member of the St. Anne’s choir, and she loved to play the violin privately in her home. Our mom loved music and to sing, and while living at Parkland she looked forward to participating in the sing-alongs, knowing all the words. Mom loved her family dearly, and she was always there for each of us. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, whether it be attending school basketball games, hockey games, grammy’s taxi-driver, or making chocolate chip pancakes. She looked forward to her visits with her grandchildren visiting from away. She loved them dearly and was proud of each and every one of them. She will be remembered for her gentle, sweet nature by all who knew her. Left to mourn her passing are her children; Alan (Donna), Livy (Joanne), Kevin (Paula), Brenda McLean (Glenn), Laureen Farnam (Paul); brothers, Lawrence (Karen), Duncan (Annette); sisters, Cecilia Thompson (Jim), Lorraine Lothier, Maureen MacKenzie (Donnie); sister-in-law, Caroline Martell; 10 grandchildren, Allison (Zorn), Thomas, Melissa (Kyle), Jessica (Wyatt), Amy, Jeffrey, Nathan (Skye), Ella, Julian, Elise; one great grandson, Chance. Besides her parents, Margie was predeceased by her husband Claude; brothers, Sid (Anne), Wallace; sister, Mary MacLeod (Duncan); brother-in-law, Bobby Lothier. We would like to thank Parkland Cape Breton for the care given to our mother, as well as the staff of 3A CBRH, during her brief stay in hospital. A special thank you to Duncan & Annette Martell for their love, care, and friendship over the years, and to Caroline, her sister-in-law, who was always a true friend and mom loved her dearly. Funeral Service/Celebration of Life for our mother will be held on Monday, October 24, 2022 at 10:30 am, TJ Tracey Cremation & Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve Street, Glace Bay, with Fr.
