Please share a memory of David to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
David William Ewing It is with heavy hearts that we are announcing the passing of David William Ewing at the age of 73. David passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the QE2 Health Sciences Centre. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late Ronald and Vera (Stone) Ewing. David is survived by his loving wife of 52 years Jeanette (Leudy) and 4 children. Denise (Brian) Moss of Barrs Corner, NS; Tammy (Robie) Gardiner of Launching, PEI; Paula Peckham of Middle Sackville, NS; Mark (Kelly Wood) Ewing of Kingston, ON.; 9 grandchildren; Craig, Shawn, Tylan, Darius, Jordon, Josh, Katie, Jacob, Abby and 1 great-granddaughter Nora. He had a fierce love for every one of them. Also survived by brothers Robert (Marie) Maitland; Donnie, Simms Settlement; Douglas (Roxanne), Brighton ON; Steve (Suzanne), Chester; Hilliard (Tammy), Middleton; sister, Margaret Covey Vernon, BC. David was predeceased by brothers, Joseph, Walter, Gordie, Arthur; sisters Lorraine, Betty, Grace, Jean and niece Roberta. At the tender age of 18, David left the bustling city of Halifax for the small community of New Waterford. It was here his life would forever change. He met Jeanette (Honey) and would make New Waterford his forever home until very recently. David and Jeanette raised their 4 children in New Waterford. David was heavily involved with the St. Vincent De Paul Society and was President for a time. He also worked at St. Rita Hospital as an orderly until a back injury ended his career. David was blessed to have many amazing friends throughout his life. There are too many to name but please know your friendship over the years was cherished by him. A heartfelt thank you to the staff on the 8th floor at the Halifax Science Centre. You are all angels. Anyone who knew David knows we cannot celebrate his life without talking about his love of dance. David and Jeanette could be found at any hall or house party that played music on a Friday or Saturday night. People would watch in awe as he would dance his heart out to every song. Later in life when he couldn’t dance anymore, it was hard for him to accept. It gives us great comfort to know he is again dancing his heart out in heaven. The 4 of us have witnessed the loss of so many of our aunts and uncles gone too soon. We consider ourselves lucky to have gotten the chance to get to know dad as adults. We would love to read any stories or memories you have about dad. Be it happy or sad. You can upload a couple of pics if you’d rather. We will be sharing a few ourselves. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the IWK Halifax NS.
