Thomas Clifford Andrews ‘Arnold’ Glace Bay It is with heavy hearts that we had to say goodbye to the best husband, adored father, sweet son, amazing big brother and incredible quacking Poppy, Thomas Clifford Andrews ‘Arnold’, age 72 on February 9th, 2022 at home after a very long, courageous battle with cancer while surrounded by his loving family. Born in Glace Bay on June 5th, 1949, Arnold was the son of the late Thomas Clifford Andrews and Mrs.Theresa (Madore) Andrews. Employed as a linesman with DEVCO, he ended his career at the Central Shops in Glace Bay as an electrician. Arnold was one of the hardest working men that we know, he could do more with one arm then most could do with two. It didn’t matter who needed his help, he would go running. He loved hockey, baseball and had a passion for hunting and fishing. He loved the outdoors and would often just enjoy a quiet walk through the woods. He loved to play darts and didn’t mind reminding every one of his 180 shot. He also loved his Saturday nights out for supper with his wife and great friends, Liz and Bill White. He also will be missed by his sister-in-law Carol Smith whom he spent many afternoons together with. Arnold is survived by his loving wife of 50 years Mary Lou (Smith) Andrews, his three daughters Sheri, Melissa (Boo) and Allison (AJ) whom he adored and were always by his side, his mother Theresa (Madore) Andrews; brother, Barry Andrews and baby sister Juanita Taylor (Bobby). Also survived by seven grandchildren, Katelyn, Austin, Brittany, Samantha, Leo, Nathan, Sara; five great-grandchildren Kaiya, Kalli, Mason, Maddox and Quinten; as well as his special cousin Mansie LaBelle who was like a brother and many other cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Thomas Clifford Andrews; aunts Vivian (Dunnie) Virtue and Renee Labelle, Uncle Joseph “Booie” Andrews; brother-in-law Kirk Taylor, mother-in-law Peggy McKay, friend since childhood Willie Popwell and hunting buddy Paddy DeGaust. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to all the wonderful VON nurses and New Waterford Homecare workers who cared for Arnold during his most recent illness. Also, to the staff at Pharmasave Glace Bay, especially Dale Turner who always went above and beyond for him. A special thank you to the staff and nurses on 3 South at the Glace Bay General Hospital who treated Arnold like a King and helped make the transition home smooth. We thank you all from the bottom of our hearts. Arnold had many friends and will be missed by all, but we would like to send an extra thank you out to friend and neighbor Bobby O’Neill who would call, visit and check on him throughout his journey. Also his close friends Barry Bisson and Bart MacDonald. There are no words to express our gratitude to Barry Andrews who was often at his big brother's side, popping by to watch the hockey game. Also, his baby sister Juanita Taylor who no one could hold a candle to and who truly stood by her big brother. Your presence and support made it much easier for us to cope through his final days. Dad’s favorite saying was ‘a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck.’ Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 16, from 12 -2 pm with a memorial service to follow at 2 p.m. with Fr. Duaine Devereaux officiating. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to T.J. Tracy Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS (902-849-4199). Memorial donations are welcome to the Cape Breton Cancer Centre and the Shriner’s Hospital to support Osteogenesis Imperfecta (Brittle Bones) for his great-granddaughter. COVID-19 restrictions do apply. Proof of double vaccination and Government Photo ID will be required. Masks are mandatory.
