Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On March 19, 2021, John Gilbert Fraser passed away at the age of 86, 11 years after being diagnosed with cancer. John was born on January 10, 1935 in St. Paul’s, Pictou County to John Charles Fraser and Bertha Jane Fraser (née McDonald). He graduated in 1968 with a Chartered Life Underwriters designation, specializing in life insurance and estate planning. A career with Travellers Insurance took him from Ottawa to Toronto and home again to Halifax. After retiring from Travellers in 1986, John launched a successful career in the investment industry as a Certified Financial Planner, eventually retiring in 2002. John and Tiny resided happily in Bedford for over 30 years. The neighbours in their courtyard all knew one another, thanks to John and Tiny. They were the glue that brought people together. One year they even got permission from the city to block off the street to accommodate a neighbourhood party! In addition to working with clients, John loved golfing, playing crib, hunting, and spending time at the family farm in Pictou County. John and Tiny loved to travel, visiting 16 countries across Europe and North America. John contributed a lot to his community. He was a member of both the Y’s Men and the Gyro clubs in Halifax and Bedford areas. John often said that the two most important things in life were family and friends. And family didn’t just include people! His daughter’s dog, Tasha, was very loved and spoiled by Grandpa Fraser. John had many friends and was always good at keeping in touch by phone or just dropping by to visit. He was loved and will be missed by many, many people. John was preceded in death by his father John Charles, his stepfather Charles, and his mother, Bertha. In addition to his wife Tiny Fraser (née Wright), he is survived by his sister Margaret Jessie Kempt (Eddy), his daughter Deborah Anne Smith (Brian), his son John Drew Fraser (Denise), four grandchildren (Jennifer, Ian, Christopher, and Katie), and one great grandchild (Owen). Arrangements have been entrusted to T. J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 71 McQuade Lake Crescent, Halifax.
