Herbert Julian Thomas, 80
Reserve Mines, N.S.
Herbert Julian Thomas, 80, of Reserve Mines, passed away on January 18, 2025, surrounded by his family in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. He was the son of the late Robert and Marriette Thomas.
Herbie is survived by his wife, Loyola, with whom he shared 59 wonderful years of marriage; two sons, John (Terri) of Moncton and Keith (Rose) of Montreal; and his daughter, Brenda (Steven) of Reserve Mines. Herbie is also survived by three brothers, including his twin, Raymond (Kay), Robert (June), and Dougie (Audrey). He was a devoted grandfather to nine grandchildren: Steven, Amanda, Andrew, Curtis, Casey, Jarrett, Maria, Austin, and Keisha. Additionally, he cherished several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Along with his parents, Herbert was predeceased by a brother Maurice, and his granddaughter, Amber.
Aside from his family, Herbie's two great loves were watching Coronation Street and his daily visits to Tim Hortons. He worked as a sheet metal worker with Local 56 until his retirement in 2000.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, VON, Dr. Lee, Cape Breton Seniors Day Program, and Cape Breton County Homecare for their care and support.
A Funeral service will be held at T.J. Tracey's Funeral Home, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, 902-849-4199, on Wednesday, January 22, at 2:00 p.m., with Fr. Norman MacPhee presiding.
