1942 – 2025 It is with heavy hearts that the family of Walter Frederick Martell, 83, of Halifax, Nova Scotia, announces his passing on August 30, 2025, at Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Montreal, Quebec, Walter was the beloved son of the late Charles Joseph Martell and Kathleen (Kay) Mary (Morrison) Martell. Walter dedicated over 40 years of his life to the seafood industry, where he was known for his hard work and commitment. Beyond his professional life, he was a passionate home chef, always in search of the best deals and freshest ingredients. He found joy in springtime gardening, where he cultivated not only vegetables and berries but also a sense of peace and satisfaction. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Florence Marie (Campbell) Martell; sons, Scott Martell and Christopher Martell (Hayley); and stepdaughter, Leah (Everett) MacKay. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Courtney Martell and Madison Martell; step-grandchildren, Cherie MacKay, Eve MacKay, and Caitlin MacKay; and step great-grandson, David. Known affectionately by his granddaughters as Grumpets, and known by many as Bibby, Bibs, or Uncle Bibs. He will be greatly missed by many. He was predeceased by his parents and by his siblings, Audrey, Helen, and Charles Jr. Interment will take place at a later date in Brookside Cemetery, Mill Village, Nova Scotia. In lieu of flowers, donations in Walter’s memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
