BUEHREN, Charlotte Lucille (Higson)
February 1943 – August 29, 2025
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Charlotte Lucille Buehren (née Higson), who left us peacefully on 29 August 2025. Born in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, Lucille was predeceased by her loving parents, John and Frances Higson.
Lucille attended Pictou Academy before going on to graduate from Mount Allison University, where she pursued her passion for education. She built a long and meaningful career as a Social Studies teacher at Halifax West High School, retiring after over 30 years of dedicated service. Lucille was known for her quiet strength, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to her students and colleagues.
A private and independent person by nature, Lucille was gentle, kind, and thoughtful. While she may have taken time to let others see her true self, those fortunate enough to do so were rewarded with a loyal and lasting friendship. She had a generous spirit, often supporting a variety of charitable causes, and held a special place in her heart for animals—especially her beloved “fur babies.”
In her younger years, Lucille enjoyed golfing, and in later years, she found joy in watching her favorite sports on her big screen TV. Though she faced challenges adapting to modern technology, she approached them with determination—and more than a few humorous moments—as the teacher became the student.
Lucille had a well-known sweet tooth and often found joy in dining out, where every menu was a tempting delight. She lived with diabetes for many years, facing its challenges with quiet resilience.
To those who knew her, Lucille’s presence was steady, dignified, and sincere. She often said, “Just do something nice for somebody else,” a simple yet profound reminder of how she chose to move through the world.
Lucille’s life was a gift to all who knew her, and she will be deeply missed. As shared by her extended family, Margo and David Jeffery: “It has truly been a pleasure to have had Lucille as part of our lives over the years. You will be sadly missed.”
In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral or memorial service. A private interment will be held.
