Please share a memory of Jeanette to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Deveaux, Marie 'Jeanette' Deveaux,
26 August 1924 – 29 August 2025
Glace Bay
It is with profound sadness that Jeanette Deveaux passed surrounded by family at her side at the young age of 101. God’s light will forever shine on her.
Jeanette Romard was born and raised in Cheticamp, Nova Scotia, one of six children. After a long-distance courtship (George drove 93 km by bicycle to ask her out), Jeanette left her birthplace at an early age and moved to Glace Bay where she married the love of her life, George Deveaux. Together they built a happy home and became the parents of 10 children.
Jeanette was an avid knitter, cook and baker. She will always be remembered for her meat pies, homemade bread, beans and tea biscuits and variety of cookies, shared with all that came to visit. She loved to play cards and spent many Monday evenings with her friends from MacKay’s Corner and Saturdays with her in-laws. Friday night was Bingo night at the Fire Hall and she continued to play each week during her stay at Victoria Haven.
Jeanette was a long-time member of the Holy Family Church Ladies Auxiliary. She sang in the choir and was a member of the dart league. Her absence will be truly missed by the community.
Jeanette will be loved and sadly missed by her sons, Gary (Cheryl), Wayne (Melodie) and son-in-law, Eric Vanetti. Jeanette will always be an inspiration and was a shining example of strength to her daughters, Rita (Roy) McKinnon, deceased), Gail (Dave) Bambury, Lisa (Rivlyn) Kennedy, daughter-in-law Colette Deveaux and sister-in-law Ruby Deveaux.
Jeanette’s legacy will be carried on by her surviving grandchildren, Patricia Vanetti, Blair Vanetti (Lianne), Lori Anne Vanetti (Jason) Hanna, Charlene McKinnon (deceased) (Mike) LaPierre, Daryl Deveaux (Ashley Costanzo), Corey Deveaux, Nicole Deveaux (Jamie) Boutilier, Holly Deveaux (Shane) Oldford, Colin Bambury, Kellsie Bambury, Travis South, Trent South Shelby, Grace, Megan, Cheyenne, Carli, Joey, Sophie, Paisley, Drake, Marlie, Carson, Cameron, Brogan, Quinn will miss their Great Grandmother, (Gumma Gum)’s hugs, kisses and special smiles.
Jeanette’s grandchildren gave her that extra reason to smile and boosted her zest for life.
Jeanette was predeceased by her parents, Sophie and Moise Romard. Her loving husband, George Deveaux, in 1978. Jeanette will be reunited in heaven with her daughters, Eileen, Patricia, Charlene, Diane Vanetti, son Gilbert and grandchildren, Charlene McKinnon (LaPierre) and Alan Vanetti.
Brothers and Sisters who passed before Jeanette were Edna, Bernadette, Annie May, Victor and Gilbert.
On behalf of the Deveaux family we would like to extend a sincere and special thank you to all the staff at Victoria Haven for their constant care, concern and compassion given to their Mom. We appreciate all family and friends who visited and made Mom’s stay at VH enjoyable. To Doreen, Mom’s honorary daughter, we are forever grateful for your love and friendship.
Cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held on Friday, September 5, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at 12:00 p.m. with Fr.
