Obituary of William Joseph Roop

It is with great sadness that the family announces his passing at the Camp Hill Veterans Retirement Home in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He left us peacefully in the early morning hours on Tuesday, August 27th, 2025, at the age of 97. William was born August 20, 1928 in Saint John, NB, to the late Amanda (Vautour) and Joseph Roop, but grew up in Sainte Louis de Kent from the age of 7 years. He retired from the Royal Canadian Air Force with 24 years of service along with another 10 year career as an electronics specialist with International Tel & Tel. After a period of living in Pointe-Sapin and Halifax, he returned to Sainte Louis in 2002 where he lived until moving to Camp Hill in December 2024 to be closer to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was an ardent card player attaining the Masters level in Bridge and enjoyed playing crib right up to his final days. He especially enjoyed his daily visits to Tim Hortons for coffee and chats. William was predeceased by his wife Bertha (nee Mazerolle), his brother Pierre and sisters Irene and Rose. He will be missed by his children John (Gerri), Joanne Lefebre, May Ocean and Linda Power (Dan) and siblings Archer, Jim, Angie and Germaine. He leaves behind 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, who will fondly remember him forever as their fun-loving Grampy and Great-Grampy. Cremation has taken place in Halifax. A Celebration of his life and a reception will be held at Thompson's Funeral Home,33 Rue Acadie, Richibucto, NB on Saturday,September 13th, 2025, at 11 am.
