Obituary of Chris Kent
Please share a memory of Chris to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
With broken hearts and profound sadness, we announce the passing of Chris Kent (age 61) on June 4, 2025. A long-time resident of Nova Scotia, Chris was born on Bell Island, Newfoundland
Chris leaves to mourn the love of his life and best friend, wife Corina (Bickford) and treasured companions, his standard poodles Bella and Quinn. He will be profoundly missed by his brothers, Wayne (Wanda); Brian (Lynn); Lorne (Linda); Paul (Liz); and Edward; his sisters, Sharon (Dave); Madonna (Rui); father-in-law, Charlie Bickford; brother-in-law, Carlson Bickford (Karen); and ten nieces and nephews. He also leaves to mourn a circle of dear and close friends in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. Chris was predeceased by his parents Margaret and Edward (Ned) Kent, sister Maureen Kent, mother-in-law Gloria Bickford and sister-in-law Eileen Kent.
Throughout his long stay in hospital, he was lovingly supported and cared for by his devoted wife Corina. To the close friends and wonderful neighbours who cared for Bella and Quinn during this time - thank you!
We smile in remembering his detailed way of recounting events, but he will be particularly remembered as a “gentle giant” who exuded optimism, kindness, tenderness, and generosity.
Chris enjoyed a remarkably successful career in property assessment that spanned over 30 years. He spent his career working throughout Newfoundland and Labrador and in Nova Scotia.
A passionate classic car enthusiast he never passed up an opportunity to talk cars, read about cars, look at cars, buy cars, fix cars, drive cars or ride along in cars. The familiar refrain from Corina and his family was always “What, another car Chris?.” His love was classic muscle cars. He could never get enough and in his last months he expressed his sadness at not being able to fulfill his dream of restoring cars in his retirement.
While Chris knew he was surrounded by the love of his family it was the constant presence of the greatest love of his life Corina that sustained him. One of his last messages to her spoke of the unique and special bond this couple of 41 years shared “I was blessed when God matched us together many years ago as I couldn't have had a better life partner. You are my best friend and the love of my life. While life has given us more than our fair share of challenges, having your love, strength and support has helped us overcome difficult times. With you by my side, I am filled with hope ….”
We hope that as Chris took his final ride on this his final journey it was in the Challenger of his dreams to a great embrace in Heaven.
Chris rescued several dogs over his lifetime. If you would like to make a donation in his memory the family would appreciate donations to your local SPCA, or another dog rescue organization of your choice.
Cremation has been entrusted to T.J. Tracey Cremation. A celebration of life will be held on Bell Island at a later date. Words of comfort and special memories may be shared with the family by visiting www.tjtracey.com
