Obituary of Craig MacCormack
Please share a memory of Craig to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved brother, Craig, who left us too soon—but not without leaving his unique mark on the world.
Craig was a kind and generous soul who lived life on his own terms. He took great pride in his independence and never wanted anyone to think he couldn’t manage on his own. And he could—always in his own determined way. Craig had an enormous heart. He was the kind of guy who’d sell what he didn’t need, often giving away what he had to someone he believed needed it more. His selflessness and compassion were just part of who he was.
A proud resident of Truro, Craig knew everyone—and we mean everyone. He was just as comfortable chatting with the mayor as he was biking around town, waving to neighbours. He had a great sense of humour and was always quick to laugh, often finding amusement in even the smallest things.
Craig had a special place in his heart for babies, and nothing brought him more joy than spending time with his nieces and nephews, who lit up his world.
Craig loved his animals, especially his Guinea pigs, who enjoyed a life of leisure and more snacks than most pets dream of. He loved to order takeout, and we’re pretty sure every delivery driver in town knew him by name. Craig appreciated being part of the Special Olympics community, where he had the chance to take part in local events and was proud to have once travelled to the national games.
Having Craig in our lives shaped not only who we are as people, but also the paths we chose to follow in our education and careers. His unique way of seeing the world and the challenges he faced inspired us to pursue meaningful work that could make a difference in the lives of others, working to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to live with dignity, purpose, and independence—just as Craig so fiercely valued. His life taught us patience, empathy, and the importance of advocating for those whose voices are too often unheard.
We are deeply grateful to Craig’s CRSS family—both staff and residents—for the care, support, and friendship they shared with him over the years, helping him live a life filled with dignity, connection, and love.
While we wish we had more time with him, we take comfort in knowing that Craig lived exactly the way he wanted to—freely, independently, and with a big heart. He was one of a kind. And we’ll miss him, always.
Craig was deeply loved by his family. He will be forever missed by his sisters Lynne (Kurt) McCarron, Carrie (David) Ramsay, and Amber (Donnie) Whalen. His memory will live on in his nephews Dillon, Brody (Holly), Andrew (Gabby), Coby McCarron, and David Ryon Ramsay; his nieces Brianna (Jeremy) Blom, Abbie (Kyle) Ramsay, Tesa, and Madison Ramsay; and his grandnephews Sebastian and Felix Blom, and William McCarron. Craig was predeceased by his parents Tony & Dolores MacCormack.
A celebration of his life will take place on Monday, June 9, 2025, at T.J. Tracey, 6 Churchill Drive, Sydney, NS, 902-539-7175 at 3 pm, Rev. Paul Murphy officiating, with a reception to follow.
