Simone Marie (Aucoin) MacKinnon November 4, 1949 – June 4, 2025 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Simone MacKinnon, who died on Wednesday, June 4, 2025. Born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia on November 4th, 1949, Simone was the cherished daughter of the late Henri and Sophie Aucoin (originally of Cheticamp) A proud Cape Bretoner, Simone dedicated 35 years of her professional life to the Royal Bank in Glace Bay, where she rose to the position of Assistant Manager. Many will fondly remember her warmth, her quick wit, and ever-present smile that greeted clients and colleagues alike. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Simone was a vibrant presence in the cultural life of her community. A passionate performer and co-founder of both Cape Breton Folk and the Bayside Players theatre group, she brought joy to many through her singing and acting. She even appeared in the film Something About Love, which was filmed in Cape Breton in the late 1980’s – another testament to her enduring spirit and creativity. Simone was also deeply engaged in advocacy and public service. She was an active member of union leadership, served on various local councils and boards, and was a committed participant in the Nova Scotia New Democratic Party, always striving to create positive change for her community. Simone leaves behind her devoted husband of 54 years, Bernie L. MacKinnon; her daughter Jenna MacKinnon (Jason Ross); her son, Michael MacKinnon (Donna Yu); and her two cherished grandsons, Ewen and Nolan.
