Obituary of Helen Theresa MacDonald

With broken hearts, we regret to announce the passing of Helen Kennedy MacDonald, at Hospice Cape Breton on Sunday, May 11, with her partner and husband of 20 years, Shaun MacDonald, by her side. Born in Sydney, Helen was the daughter of the late John and Annie Mae (MacNeil) Kennedy. Helen worked as an RN, as well as owner/operator at Carefield Manor, Nurse Consultant at Canadian Blood Services, and RN Instructor with New Dawn. She is survived by her husband, Shaun; son, James Garland (Cora); daughter, Shauna Morrison; stepchildren, Josh and Tara; grandchildren, Roger and Heaven-Leigh; brother, Joseph; sisters, Louise Collins, Jean Jackson, Dolores (Peter) Moran, and Rose (Ray) Mombourquette; brothers-in-law, Paul LeBlanc, Earl Stone, and Greg Hawrylak. Besides her parents, Helen was predeceased by husband, George Garland, her siblings, Blaise Kennedy, Mary (Kitty) Anderson, Carmella LeBlanc, Loretta Stone, and Carol Hawrylak; and brothers-in-law, Kenny Anderson, Leo Collins and John Jackson, and sister-in-law Camile Kennedy. A sincere thank you to the staff, nurses and doctors at Palliative Care; Dr. D’Intino and staff at Hospice Cape Breton; special thanks to Martina Gillis, Rose Anderson, Susan MacKenzie and Dr. Brake. Your care and compassion was truly appreciated. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 6 Churchill Drive, Sydney, NS, 902-539-7175. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, June 12,12 – 2 pm. Funeral service will take place immediately following in the chapel at 2 pm, Fr.
